Troubleshooting

Ubiquity Won't Launch

The Most Common Cause

If Ubiquity doesn't open after installation — or if you see an error like "The application was unable to start correctly" or a missing DLL message — the most likely cause is a missing system component called the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable.

Ubiquity requires the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable to run. This package provides essential runtime libraries that many Windows applications depend on. Without it, Ubiquity simply cannot start.

How to Fix It

You need to download and install the redistributable package from Microsoft. It's free, safe, and takes less than a minute.

  1. Download the Redistributable.
    Visit the official Microsoft page:
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64)
    This link downloads the 64-bit version, which is what most modern PCs need. If you're on a 32-bit system, use the x86 version instead.
  2. Run the installer.
    Double-click the downloaded file (vc_redist.x64.exe). Accept the license terms and click Install.
  3. Restart your PC.
    After the installation completes, restart your computer to make sure the new libraries are properly registered.
  4. Launch Ubiquity.
    Open Ubiquity from your Start Menu or desktop shortcut. It should now launch without any errors.

Already installed but still not working? Try uninstalling the Redistributable from Settings → Apps → Installed apps, then reinstall it fresh. A corrupted installation can sometimes cause the same symptoms.

Other Things to Check
